Who We Are

Tahoe Truckee Helping Hands is a grassroots nonprofit built on the belief that neighbors can be one another’s greatest resource. Our mission is to connect community volunteers with individuals who need a little extra help—through visits, transportation, and minor home repairs that make everyday life safer, easier, and more connected.

We focus on simple, human acts of service—things like a ride to the grocery store, help installing a handrail, or a friendly check-in with someone who lives alone. These moments may seem small, but they add up to something powerful: stronger neighborhoods, deeper connections, and a community that takes care of its own.

Here is a message from our Founder and Executive Director:

“My name is James Bartlett, and I started Tahoe Truckee Helping Hands because I saw how much of a difference a little support can make in someone’s life—especially in a small town like ours. Whether it’s helping someone stay in their home, get to a doctor’s appointment, or just feel less alone, these simple acts of kindness matter. I’ve spent years working in the community, and this nonprofit is a way to keep showing up for my neighbors, one helpful moment at a time.”

We’re local, we’re volunteer-led, and we’re just getting started. If you’re looking for a way to give back—or if you or someone you love could use a hand—we’d love to hear from you.
